Ingredients
- 3 eggs
- Vegetable or safflower oil (for frying)
- 2 tbsp brandy
- Rind of 1 lemon, grated
- Approx. 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (adjust as needed)
- 1/4 cup dried fruit (raisins, apricots), chopped
- 1/3 cup ground almonds
- 2 cups honey
Instructions
- In a bowl, beat the eggs with 2 tablespoons of oil, the brandy and the grated lemon rind until well combined.
- Gradually add flour until you form a soft, slightly sticky dough. Be careful not to overwork it.
- Heat a skillet with a few centimeters of oil or use a deep fryer set to medium-high temperature.
- Flour your hands lightly and roll small pieces of dough between your palms to form bite-sized balls. Fry them in batches until golden brown, then drain on paper towels.
- Cut the dried fruit into small pieces. In a saucepan combine the chopped dried fruit, ground almonds and honey.
- Warm the honey mixture gently over low heat, stirring until the ingredients are well combined and slightly fluid. Do not boil.
- Add the fried dough balls to the warm honey mixture, turning them so each ball is evenly coated.
- Let the coated balls sit in the honey for about 10 minutes to absorb flavor, then transfer them to a well-greased round baking tray. Arrange the balls around the edge of the tray, leaving space in the center.
- Allow the Kosovo Kurore to cool to room temperature so the honey firms slightly before serving.
- Serve with coffee or tea and enjoy.
