Day twenty marked the final assignment of the fifth module: covering and decorating a two-tier cake. I began with a clear vision — a bold, elegant design featuring a large bow on top and delicate frills along the sides. Despite the plan, the execution didn’t go smoothly. Several elements failed to come together, so I redecorated the cake three times before settling on a final look.
Because of those repeated changes I ran out of time and had to simplify the decoration considerably. In the end I created a clean, understated finish that still felt intentional. It’s not the elaborate design I imagined, but I’m happy with the result and proud of how I adapted under pressure.
The simple design emphasizes form and texture rather than ornate detail. The smooth covering highlights the cake’s proportions, and the pared-back decoration gives it a modern, refined look.
I like to call this finished piece my “minimalist” cake — a modest, elegant solution that reflects both the day’s challenges and the satisfaction of finishing strong despite setbacks.
