I partnered with San Francisco Bay Coffee for this post.
I spent most of my life assuming coffee made at home was simply “fine.” I grew up in the era of instant coffee and weak brews, when Folgers crystals and Sanka felt like the standard.
At the time, we thought it was great. Looking back, we were kidding ourselves.
Recently I discovered the best coffee I’ve ever had — and surprisingly, it comes in a single-serve pod.
I was searching for an affordable single-serve option because I was tired of paying 50–70 cents per cup for coffee so weak I needed several cups just to wake up. A blog mentioned that San Francisco Bay Coffee single-serve pods cost about 35–40 cents per serving and had excellent reviews — people calling it “the best cup of coffee ever.”
I decided to try it.
The reviews were right.
From the first cup I was sold. The coffee has a rich, balanced flavor — bold without being overpowering — and a little goes a long way. I often only need one cup, maybe two, to get through the morning. It’s strong enough to enjoy over ice, which is my favorite way to drink coffee, and it outperforms many pods marketed specifically for iced coffee.
My favorite roast is Fog Chaser, but if you’re unsure which one you’ll like, try the variety pack first to find your favorite. When you open a bag of these pods, the aroma is striking — like freshly ground beans. Stored in an airtight container, the pods retain that fresh-roasted scent each time you open them.
One practical plus: the pods are not bulky plastic cups. Many of them are mostly compostable, so you can reduce waste and give your coffee grounds and pod material a second life in the garden.

If you try it, I’d love to hear what you think.
Overall, switching to these single-serve pods gave me better flavor, better value, and less waste — all in a convenient format that makes a great cup whether hot or iced.
