DIY Snowman Candy & Snack Platter Ideas for Holiday Parties

This Snowman Stick Platter, made with bocconcini, fresh basil, and grape tomato snowmen on skewers, is a charming and easy addition to any Christmas party spread.

A plate of salad arranged with mozzarella and tomato snowmen, each with black dots for eyes and mouth, and a carrot nose, on a bed of greens—fun bites that make healthy food recipes festive. Cherry tomatoes form Santa hats at the center of the dish.

Serve the platter as a festive side salad or line up the snowmen as playful appetizers. For a dramatic presentation, arrange them in a long row and tuck a few rosemary sprigs in between to suggest tiny Christmas trees.

A plate of salad with skewers arranged in a circle, each decorated to look like snowmen using mozzarella, tomatoes, and arugula. A festive string of lights surrounds the plate.

I like to keep things simple by arranging the snowmen on a bed of peppery arugula, but they also pair well with other salads — a tomato, red onion, and pomegranate mix or a holiday Caesar would be lovely companions.

Equipment

  • star canapé sticks

Ingredients

Snowmen

  • 5 grape tomatoes
  • 25 bocconcini
  • 1 carrot, small
  • 20 fresh basil leaves
  • 1 teaspoon chia seeds

Arugula salad

  • 100 grams arugula
  • 2 tablespoons balsamic glaze
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • sea salt, to taste
  • pepper, to taste

Instructions

  • Cut the grape tomatoes in half and slice the bocconcini as needed.
  • Place half a tomato on the canapé stick and top it with a bocconcini slice to create a hat.
  • Thread one bocconcini onto the stick, add a rolled basil leaf to serve as a scarf, then add a second bocconcini to form the body.
  • Slice the carrot and cut a small triangle for the nose.
  • Use chia seeds to make the eyes and buttons—press them gently into the bocconcini.
  • Repeat these steps until you have all the snowmen prepared.
  • Arrange the arugula on a serving platter.
  • Dress the salad with olive oil, balsamic glaze, and season with sea salt and pepper.
  • Place the snowman skewers on top of the dressed arugula.
  • Finish with a final sprinkle of sea salt and pepper if desired.
